Fall Minutes

  1. Short Seminar: The Balanced Wheel (Presented by Bob Jordan)

  2. Ch. Greg Garringer and Bob Jordan moderated a panel discussion on minority faith systems within the jails and DOC.  Panelists: Gary Friedman (Jewish); Ismail Ahmad (Muslim); Bill Russell (Native American); Barbara Lauderdale (Wiccan); Genko Kathy Blackman (Buddhist) [No Buddhist could attend the actual meeting, but several text points were submitted and read during the meeting.]

  3. Randy Schulz recognized as Interim Chairman through March 2007 when formal elections are held. Former Chairman Chaplain Stew Bowen regretfully resigned his position due to family matters.

2007

Spring Minutes

  1. Bob Jordan presented a seminar on Time Management.

  2. Randy Schulz led team discussions on Chaplain's Best Practices.

  3. Election of Officers: Chaplain Greg Garringer of Cedar Creek Corrections Center voted in as Chairman. Term is for two years. Chaplain Shannon O'Donnell of Washington Correction Center for Men voted in as Treasurer. Term is for two years.

  4. Meeting Venue: Ellensburg, WA.  Note: It is now established that the Spring WCA Meeting will always be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines (Western Washington venue) and the Fall WCA Meeting will always be held at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Ellensburg, WA (Eastern Washington venue).

 

Fall Minutes

    1.    Part 1 - Two guest speakers from the DOC on the subject of Inmate Re-Entry:

                Belinda Stewart and Joenne Harrhy

    2.    Part 2 - Chaplain Garringer moderated a panel discussion on Washington State re-entry programs.

                Nine panelists, all WCA members

    3.    For 2008 the WCA will hold both the Spring and Fall meeting in Ellensburg, WA.

 

2008

Spring Minutes

  1. Part 1 - Secretary Eldon Vail, Washington State DOC, addressed three major topics.

                i)    Adding a specific re-entry chaplain or chaplains, or admin assistants?

                ii)   EFV policies, specifically toward inmates marrying after incarceration.

                iii)  How do offenders choose which religion to participate in?

  1. Asst. Atty. General Sarah Olson discussed multi-faith law and how it's affecting prison admin.

  2. Bi-laws Revised and Approved.

  3. Randy Schulz re-elected Vice Chair, Bob Jordan re-elected Secretary of the WCA.

 

Fall Minutes

  1. Nancy Ferguson of Fresh Start Ministries shared on Personal Mastery. Everyone received a free book as well courtesy of Klemmer and Associates.

  2. Randy Schulz led the meeting as Chaplain Greg Garringer was on medical sabbatical.

  2. First meeting held at new 11am starting time. This will be standard for the foreseeable future.
