The Washington Chaplains Association

Per WCA Bi-Laws each officer's term is two years. Officers may be re-elected on vote of those present at the Spring WCA meeting. One DOC chaplain is required to be on the Executive Team. There are no "term limits."

All officers participate in the decisions and arrangements for the meeting topics and speakers, both by team conference calls and email. Further, officers generally meet with each other throughout the year through other associations, ministry opportunities, conferences, or by telecom. Email interaction occurs throughout the year. Generally officer responsibilities are as follows:

bullet

Chair: Emcee the semi-annual WCA meetings (Spring / Fall); make arrangements for guest speaker.

bullet

Vice Chair: Confirm the venue with the host organization. Emcee in the Chairman's absence.

bullet

Secretary: Publish minutes of the meeting; maintain the website; semi-annual meeting mailings.

bullet

Treasurer: Meeting registration, handle WCA finances, maintain bank accounts.

bullet

At Large: Assist in any of the above duties as requested. Often At-Large members are former officers (though not required). Goal is to provide ongoing continuity in the leadership needs of the WCA.

Time commitment for any of the roles (except for being at the actual meeting) involves infrequent email communication among the WCA Officers (say, 2 hours total per year) and team phone conference calls (estimate 3 hours per year). We are no longer meeting face-to-face as an exec team between meetings since it is just too difficult to coordinate (we have met multiple times in the past, and very fruitful, but just harder and harder to do). The main effort between meetings is determining a meeting topic, lining up speakers, helping with contacts, brainstorming, and some logistics. If we have to make a decision to change a venue, reschedule a meeting, or even cancel a meeting the exec team all participate in that.
